Non-Negotiables and Mental Health
Nowadays, we hear “take care of your mental health” more often than not. But have you ever asked yourself what that truly means? Although most people will tell you to hike and enjoy nature, read a book for leisure, or hang out with your friends, those things might not be the best way to manage your mental health. After all, not everyone likes to hike or read, and even though they love their friends, a night solo at home is more appealing. So, what does it mean to take care of your mental health? It means something for everyone! Here are some tips on managing your mental health in a way that works for you!
First, what are your daily non-negotiables? You know… the things you absolutely can’t live without? Is it your morning coffee or matcha? Is it a daily nap? Is it listening to music and going on a drive? Whatever they are, note them and try your best to do them daily. To take it even further, you can make a checklist in your planner or phone to see how your mood correlates with how many non-negotiables you complete a day.
Need help identifying your non-negotiables? Here are some common ones:
- 10k steps a day
- Cooking a meal
- Taking a nap
- Journaling
- Playing with your kids or pet
- Making coffee or matcha
- Calling a loved one
The more you note the things you can’t live without, the more you can learn about yourself and what makes you happy. So, what are your non-negotiables? :)
